two similar movies at the same time

Hollywood is at it again:

"The Illusionist" and "The Prestige" are both recently released movies. They both feature magicians as their main characters. Does this seem weird to anyone else? This wouldn't seem as weird to me if magician films were common, but I am not remembering any magic movies. Here are the synopses; you guess which one is which.

"(Famous director) directs this mysterious story of two magicians whose intense rivalry leads them on a life-long battle for supremacy full of obsession, deceit and jealousy with dangerous and deadly consequences."

"Set in turn-of-the-centuy Vienna, this supernatural mystery combines romance, politics and magic."

Which one is it? Further investigation reveals that one of them appears to be about two rival magicians, while the other one is a rivalry between a politician and a magician.

This bothers me a little bit. I wonder which film is the hack.

Man, I miss Gob Bluth already .. it is indeed odd to have even one movie about magic in theaters, much less two .. I skipped "The Illusionist" entirely, but I highly recommend 'The Prestige," if you don't mind a mind-bending plot

Oh, this has happened before. I think that Volcano and Dante's Peak ended up coming out at the same time, too. I'm sure there are other examples, but I don't think that one is necessarily a hack. Sometimes similar movies just come out at the same time.
